2 weeks agoOrdered Kabab Torsh (beef kebab marinated in pomegranate sauce and walnuts) and Joojeh torsh (chicken marinated in pomegranate sauce and walnuts). Kabab torsh was excellent. It melted in the mouth and was very soft. It was even softer than the same kebab I had at Gilaneh (another Persian restaurant). Joojeh torsh was tasty, too, but not that soft. Wish it was softer. For dessert, had Khoshkar and Faloodeh. Khoshkar was not that tasty compared to the one I had at Gilaneh. Faloodeh was frozen and could hardly grabbed a small piece out of it. Again Faloodeh I had at Gilaneh was better and not frozen at all. Customer service was great. The decoration was well-done and it perfectly matched the name of the restaurant, North, showcasing a northern village of Iran with its beautiful houses. The music was loud and could be disturbing for elderlies. Wish the music level was lower.

a month agoOne of the best experiences I’ve had at an Iranian restaurant. The restaurant is very spacious, beautifully designed, and comfortable. There’s plenty of room even for larger groups, and the atmosphere feels relaxed without being noisy or crowded. The staff were also incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. We ordered Sabzi Polo with fish, trying both the white fish and the trout. The Sabzi Polo was absolutely delicious—you could really taste the freshness of the herbs. We were told in advance that it would take a little longer to prepare, and it was definitely worth the wait. Both fish dishes were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I would honestly come back just for the fish! A special thank you to Lili, who was so kind and hospitable. She brought us their special grilled eggplant dish, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our meal. I had never tried anything

5 months agoI recently visited North Restaurant. The atmosphere of the place is beautiful, warm, and very eye-catching—it genuinely reminded us of our home country. The customer service was also great, especially from the lady ( Marjan) who helped us, she was very welcoming and kind. For the food, I ordered Mirza Ghasemi as a warm appetizer, which was delicious and full of flavor. However, the Vaziri Kebab was disappointing. The kebab did not seem properly cooked, and the taste of the red meat in the koobideh was not good at all. Another issue that made me reconsider coming back was the condition of the dishes, as several plates were chipped. Overall, the atmosphere and service were excellent, but the food quality and presentation need improvement.

6 months agoWe ordered Tahdig with Ghormeh Sabzi, Kashke Bademjan, Koobideh Kebab, and Khoshkar for dessert. The food was good, but not very different from fast-casual Persian spots. The interior is the highlight, it feels like a charming little village and creates a lovely atmosphere. Service seemed a bit disorganized at first, like sections weren’t clearly assigned. Overall, a nice experience, but not quite worth the higher price point in our opinion.

8 months agoWe first saw the reviews and noticed the rating was around 3.6, so we were honestly a bit doubtful about whether to go or not. In the end, we decided to try North Restaurant because one of my friends recommended it, and I’m really glad we did. It was definitely worth it. The atmosphere is amazing, easily one of the best among all the Persian restaurants I’ve been to in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. Everything felt welcoming and well put together, and it was a great place to sit, talk, and enjoy the meal. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The taste was on point, and the portions were solid. If you go, I definitely recommend trying the Kabab Torsh, it was a standout for us and we would order it again without hesitation. Overall, a great experience and absolutely deserving of 5 stars.

2 days agoWe’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years, and it has always held a special place in our hearts. Coming back here brings back so many wonderful memories, and today was even more special as we celebrated my graduation! The service was exceptional, as always. A special thank you to Sina, who was absolutely amazing! He was incredibly attentive, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make our celebration memorable. It’s experiences like these that keep us coming back year after year. Thank you for being part of so many special moments and memories over the years!

4 months agoUnfortunately, I was very dissatisfied with both the food and the customer service, and I would not recommend this restaurant. We ordered Koobideh through Uber Eats and had already confirmed our order details with the restaurant staff before placing the order. However, the food arrived with only one skewer instead of the two skewers that were supposed to be included. When we called the restaurant, Mr. Mahyar, who is a server, introduced himself as the manager and claimed that perhaps Uber had dropped one of the skewers. I found this explanation unprofessional and misleading. Instead of taking responsibility and helping resolve the issue, the restaurant chose to make excuses. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.

a month agoWe visited Shomal on Saturday evening and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The restaurant is designed to reflect northern Iran, and the atmosphere and décor were pleasant. Unfortunately, that was the only part of our experience that we enjoyed. We ordered the Mazeh Platter for $38, which included Mirza Ghasemi, an eggplant-and-herb dish, mast, torshi seer, zeytoon parvardeh, baghali ghatogh, and a few other items. Most of the dishes were disappointing and lacked good flavor. The only things we somewhat enjoyed were the torshi seer and zeytoon parvardeh. For our main courses, we ordered Kabab Torsh and Chicken Kabab Torsh. The beef kabab, which cost around $40, had an unpleasant taste and a noticeable meat odor. The chicken was also disappointing—it was extremely chewy, had an unpleasant smell, and did not taste fresh or properly prepared. Neither dish came close to th

5 months agoI had such a wonderful experience at Shomal Restaurant tonight after a long time in Toronto. The food was delicious, but what truly made our evening special was Zahra. She was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. Her warm and friendly attitude made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. It’s rare to see someone who genuinely cares about customers the way she does. Zahra is truly amazing, and she made our night unforgettable. Thank you, Zahra!

3 months agoThis was one of the worst Persian restaurants I have ever visited. The food quality was extremely disappointing. We ordered the Kabab Torsh for $40, but it was not even worth half that price. The meat had an unpleasant smell, the rice was of poor quality, and the grilled tomatoes were still raw. We also ordered their special bone-in chicken, which was equally disappointing. In total, we paid about $90 for a meal that was far below expectations. Unfortunately, the service was just as poor as the food. After taking our order, the staff rarely checked on our table. We ordered doogh, but they forgot to bring it until we reminded them halfway through our meal. They also forgot to provide separate glasses for water and doogh until we asked. When we requested a takeout box, they brought it but then left us waiting for several minutes before returning with the bill. At the end of our visit, we a

9 months agoordered the veggie kebab as a vegetarian after checking the ingredients. Since this is a Persian restaurant, I expected it to be prepared like a kebab. After waiting over 30 minutes, what arrived was just plain grilled vegetables. When we politely asked if it could be changed or returned, the server refused and blamed us!! despite there being no photos on the menu. No replacement or refund was offered. Very disappointing experience.

We ordered the chicken kebab and salmon, both served with rice and vegetables.
