If you’re looking for Persian books in Toronto, this is a true gem. I recently visited Pegah Bookstore and had one of the most memorable bookstore experiences I’ve had in years. The selection of Persian literature, poetry, philosophy, and spiritual books is excellent, but what makes this place truly special is the owner, Mr. Derakhshan. His knowledge and genuine kindness create an atmosphere that feels much more like a cultural gathering place than a bookstore. As a wonderful surprise, he even gifted me a beautiful keepsake and a book, a gesture that perfectly reflects the warmth and generosity that define this place. In a world where many bookstores have become simply retail spaces, Pegah Bookstore feels like a home for readers, thinkers, and lovers of Persian literature. I left with great books, meaningful conversations, and the feeling that I had discovered something truly special

We had a great experience today. The owner helped us pick some great books and even gifted us a book. Talking to him was a pleasurable experience and we will definitely go back for more books.

I actually love this place. The owner looks very scary but he is so friendly and once i opened up about my hometown and we had a cute conversation. This place definitely deserves a visit as u find very cool stuff inside.

I love finding small, specialist shops for particular needs, and this bookstore exemplifies that experience par excellance. I was walking with a friend from Finch to Union Station earlier today and, having just begun, I notice a fine-looking bookshop specializing in Persian poetry and literature. As some with a keen interest in Middle Eastern artistry and literary expression, I was dearly intrigued and decided to wander inside. Noticing immediately a cozy volume entitled simply as "Persian Poets," published in The Everyman's Library by Alfred A. Knopf, I proceeded to approach the vendor, who I took to be the proprietor, when the most fascinating thing happened. The proprietor was very kind and gracious, offering me a small discount (likely the cost of VISA surcharges) while enabling me to pay by e-transfer. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! The owner was extremely rude and disrespectful. I was so happy at first because I finally found a Persian bookstore after 7 years. However, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment. This person treated Iranian customers very kindly, but was rude to me simply because I am Afghan. He even told me not to touch anything. This is the most terrible person I have ever met in my life. I hope he sees this comment and reflects on his bad behavior. If he is truly a racist, then he should go back to his own country.

While looking at the bookshelves and reviewing my childhood memories, the staff literally told me if you're not buying anything go out... What an awful customer service

Awful! We went to Pegah Bookstore in Toronto to buy a book. The book was wrapped and we were explicitly told we weren’t allowed to open it until we purchased it. After paying and opening it, we realized the book was second-hand and in very poor condition (obvious wear), which was not clearly communicated upfront. When we brought this up, the owner was rude instead of trying to resolve it. Overall, this felt misleading and the customer service was unacceptable. I won’t return.

I had the rudest conversation speaking to the owner yesterday at 7:12 pm (check picture proof). asking him for an Iranian book for my mother. I didn’t speak Farsi. I spoke in English and being here for 35 years and not having an accent the owner decided to tell me “he can’t check right now as he is closing the store for the night”. Ummm sir. Google says you are open till 8pm ( I checked before I called) so I’m not sure why he decided not to help me 47 minutes left to closing BUT I GUARANTEE YOU IF I SPOKE IN FARSI he would have helped. TAKE YOUR MONEY ANYWHERE ELSE!!!! This is my second time having a horrible experience in this store and my loyalty to helping local business especially during the new year will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Same experience as other 1 star reviews. The moment the owner found out I was new to his shop and browsing, he asked me and my non-Iranian friend to leave because his store was apparently too small and we were crowding it. For context, there was no one else there, not even outside the door. Terrible experience and would not recommend at all. As a woman, it's an especially uncomfortable experience because he stares at you the entire time you are there.
